For the 15th time this season, the Northern Illinois volleyball team came away with a three-set win as NIU took down Toledo 3-0 at Victor E. Court Friday night in a Mid-American Conference West Division contest. Improving to 22-5, 11-2 in MAC play, the Huskies pushed their season-long winning streak to 10 matches and grabbed a share of first place in the division.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Spoiling Central Michigan’s senior night, the Northern Illinois volleyball team ended the weekend with a 3-1 win at McGuirk Arena Saturday night in a Mid-American Conference West Division contest. With the victory, the Huskies (21-5, 10-2 MAC) upped their season-long winning streak to nine matches and improved to a stellar 10-1 away from Victor E. Court.

Northern Illinois athletics ranks among the top universities in the Mid-American Conference, and has once again topped the national average in the Graduation Success Rate of its student-athletes, according to data released Wednesday by the NCAA.

WASHINGTON – NCAA President Mark Emmert backed a proposal to allow conferences to increase grants to student athletes by $2,000, "to more closely approach" the full cost of attending college, beyond the athletic scholarships athletes receive for tuition, fees, room, board and books.

DeKALB – In the first meeting since Northern Illinois lost to Ohio in the 2010 Mid-American Conference championship match, the Huskies avenged the tough loss with a 3-0 sweep Saturday night at Victor E. Court. Capping a 2-0 “Spike Cancer Weekend,” presented by Kishwaukee Community Hospital, the Huskies improved to 19-5, 8-2 in league play, while dropping the Bobcats to 15-9, 7-3 in the MAC.

Behind the support of a ruckus crowd that included several Northern Illinois volleyball alumni, the Huskies topped Miami (Ohio) 3-0 Saturday night at Victor E. Court in a cross-divisional Mid-American Conference contest. The win gave NIU (15-5, 4-2 MAC) its third straight win and fourth straight against the RedHawks (12-8, 3-3 MAC).

Wicinski’s third such honor this season ups her NIU career record total to eight selections.

TOLEDO, Ohio - Behind a phenomenal performance by reigning Mid-American Conference Player of the Year Lauren Wicinski, the Northern Illinois volleyball team topped Toledo 3-1 at Savage Arena Saturday evening. Wicinski totaled a career-best 39 kills and hit .484 to lead the Huskies (13-5, 2-2 MAC) to an important split in their first MAC road weekend.

The loss snapped a four-match winning streak for the Huskies (12-4, 1-1 MAC) and helped the Eagles (13-3, 1-1 MAC) avoid a 0-2 start in league play.

The Northern Illinois women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to five matches with a 3-0 win at Milwaukee Tuesday night at the Klotsche Center. In a battle of two teams who were preseason picks to win their respective leagues, the Huskies (7-2) reigned supreme over the Panthers (5-2), who NIU is now 14-7-1 against all-time.

With six votes, the Huskies rank 37th in the country in the latest edition of the poll, which was released Monday.

The Huskies (4-2) outhit the Bluejays (1-4) .316 to .230 and held a 54-46 digs advantage in the 25-19, 25-21, 25-21 win.
Northern Illinois athletics announced the latest additions to its Hall of Fame on Friday. Four individuals, one team and one family make up the 2011 Hall of Fame class, set to be inducted Oct. 7.

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Northern Illinois women’s volleyball team passed its first road test of the season after sweeping Green Bay 3-0 Tuesday night at the Kress Events Center. The Huskies (3-2) have now won their first road match of the year in three straight seasons as they improved to 19-1 all-time against the Phoenix (1-3) and won their 16th consecutive contest against GB.

The Northern Illinois volleyball team released its 2011 schedule on Friday. The 31-match fall slate features the season- and home-opener against IUPUI on August 26th along with 14 other home dates. Providing a welcomed challenge, head coach Ray Gooden’s 2011 campaign also includes contests versus seven 2010 top-50 teams, five 2010 NCAA Tournament teams and four 2010 conference champions.
