Northern Illinois athletics ranks among the top universities in the Mid-American Conference, and has once again topped the national average in the Graduation Success Rate of its student-athletes, according to data released Wednesday by the NCAA.

Greg Hipp was announced as Northern Illinois’ new cross country coach Tuesday by Huskies athletics director Jeff Compher, who also promoted track and field coach Connie Teaberry to director of track and field.

DeKALB – The Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships culminated Saturday with the Northern Illinois women's team turning in its best place finish in a MAC Championship since 2005.

The Northern Illinois 4x100-meter relay team and thrower Cora Caulfield have qualified to compete in the NCAA West Preliminary Round at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Chanel Kellyman, Roneisha Frye, Brittany Smith and Rasheta Butler will represent the Huskies in the relay and Caulfield will compete in the discus.

The Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships began at the NIU Track & Field and Soccer Complex on Thursday. Northern Illinois had just one athlete competing on the opening day of the meet as Amanda Schwab represented the Huskies in the javelin throw.

The Northern Illinois track and field team had a strong showing in the first home meet of the season, winning nine events on Saturday at the Huskie Open. NIU had an impressive performance in the sprints, sweeping the top-four spots in both the 100- and 200-meter dash.

The Northern Illinois women’s track and field team won a trio of events, including the 4x100-meter relay, as it finished fourth at the Tom Botts Invitational, hosted by the University of Missouri. The Huskie relay record was broken for the third time this season. Rasheta Butler also won the 100-meter dash and Roneisha Frye claimed the top spot in the 100-meter hurdles.

Cora Caulfield set another school record in the discus as the Northern Illinois women’s track and field team competed at the Viking Olympics at Augustana College. In addition to Caulfield’s record, the Huskies won nine other events while facing cold and windy conditions throughout the meet.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Northern Illinois track and field team kicked-off the 2011 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships , hosted by Bowling Green, Friday, as Rasheta Butler shattered two NIU school records in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash and newcomer Janay Mitchell ran away with a NIU school record in the 60-meter dash at the Perry Field House in Bowling Green, Ohio.

The Northern Illinois women’s track and field team concluded regular-season action Friday as several Huskies posted career-best performances at the Ball State Quadrangular in Muncie, Ind. The Huskies caught a glimpse of Mid-American Conference Championship action at the BSU Quads, facing competition from host Ball State, Miami (Ohio) and Western Michigan.
