Northern Illinois posted its top scores of the season on vault, balance beam and floor exercise and overcame a 1.225 point deficit in the final half of the meet to defeat Ball State, 192.925-191.125 Saturday in Victor E. Court.

The Northern Illinois gymnastics season continued on an upward swing Sunday at the NIU Convocation Center, where the Huskies improved their season-best score by a monumental margin of three points, but fell to a red-hot Western Michigan team, 194.575-193.350.

Northern Illinois senior gymnast Holly Reichard has been selected to compete in the NCAA South Central Regional as an individual for the third time in her four-year career with the Huskies, as the NCAA announced the 2011 National Collegiate Women’s Gymnastics Championships regional selections Monday.   Reichard will compete at the Norman Regional at the University of Oklahoma on Saturday, April 2 beginning at 4 p.m.

The Northern Illinois gymnastics team believed it had saved its best performance of 2011 for last going into the 2011 Mid-American Conference Championship meet Saturday in Mt. Pleasant, Mich.   NIU was coming off its highest score of the year and had seen its scores rise throughout the season, especially over the last month.   NIU coach Mark Sontag and his veteran team planned to continue that trend and show the rest of the league how far the Huskies had come.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Competing for the third time in eight days, the Northern Illinois gymnastics team posted its second-straight 193-plus score of the season while falling to No. 16 Iowa Saturday night in Iowa City, 195.950-193.425.

The Northern Illinois gymnastics team continued its climb back to full strength and earned its second straight team score of 192 or higher, but fell to Ball State in Muncie Friday night by the score of 193.400-192.025.   With the loss, NIU fell to 1-7 overall, 1-5 versus Mid-American Conference competition while Ball State improved to 5-7, 3-1.

The Northern Illinois women’s gymnastics team earned its highest team score of the season by getting season-best performances on 19 of its 24 routines Sunday on senior day at the Convocation Center.   The Huskies fell to the 16th-ranked Kent State Golden Flashes, 194.800-192.875, but saw their overall score rise for the fourth straight outing with team season-high totals on vault, uneven parallel bars and balance beam.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Northern Illinois women’s gymnastics team re-entered familiar territory Sunday as the Huskies, who have been without three starters throughout nearly all of the 2011 season, used the return of senior Jessie Watanabe to earn their highest score of the year in a dual meet at Western Michigan.
