All 17 of Northern Illinois University’s intercollegiate athletic team have surpassed the academic standards measured by the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Academic Progress Rate for 2008-09, marking the fifth consecutive year that every NIU team has made the grade. The NCAA released its complete 2008-09 Division I APR report Wednesday.

Northern Illinois women’s tennis coach Ryun Ferrell announced the dates for the Northern Illinois tennis clinics and high school team camp on Wednesday. The program begins with two free clinics, on Wednesday, June 2 and Thursday, June 3.
The top Mid-American Conference institutional awards were handed out Wednesday as Kent State was awarded the Reese Trophy representing the top men's athletic program and the Jacoby Trophy representing the top women's athletic program.

Freshman Northern Illinois men’s tennis player Maksym Bartiuk capped off his stellar debut campaign by being named the Mid-American Conference Newcomer of the Year, and a First-Team All-MAC performer, the conference office announced Tuesday. Additionally, senior Javier Bernabe earned the Jack Vredevelt Sportsmanship Award, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.

The Huskies won the first set in five-of the top six singles flights, and claimed straight-set wins at both the No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions, but dropped the doubles point, and came up short in a 4-2 decision versus Toledo in the first-round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament Thursday afternoon at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Courts.

After undergoing an 18-month, campus-wide effort to study its intercollegiate athletics program as part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I athletics certification program, Northern Illinois University has received the highest classification of "certified," the NCAA announced Thursday. This is the third time Northern Illinois has successfully gone through the organization's certification process.

Northern Illinois head men’s tennis coach Patrick Fisher announced Wednesday the signing of Chicago native and Walter Payton Prep High School product Matt Goralka, who will begin his four-year eligibility with the Huskies beginning in the Fall 2010 season. Goralka represents the fourth signing under Fisher, who was hired as NIU’s coach on Aug. 21.

Northern Illinois men's tennis coach Patrick Fisher announced Monday the addition of three international recruits that have signed National Letters of Intent to play tennis and continue their education at Northern Illinois. All three players have enrolled in classes for the spring semester, and will begin their eligibility for the upcoming 2009-10 season.
