The Northern Illinois men’s basketball team played Bowling Green even in the second half, but were unable to overcome a slow first half start, falling 65-40 on Saturday evening at the Stroh Center.
Northern Illinois posted its top scores of the season on vault, balance beam and floor exercise and overcame a 1.225 point deficit in the final half of the meet to defeat Ball State, 192.925-191.125 Saturday in Victor E. Court.
DeKALB – Kathi Bennett had just watched her vision take life for two hours on the Convocation Center court.

He wasn’t trying to kill the baseball. Just a steady stroke, smooth through the strike zone, solid on the way out – like he’d done thousands of times. Scott Taylor hit a home run in his previous at-bat against Kaneland in the Class 3A Rochelle Sectional semifinals. Here came another. If he could just … hit … the ball … square.

DeKALB – There wasn’t a magic number, no set goal of in-state recruits for Northern Illinois football coach Dave Doeren to hit by Wednesday’s signing day.
DeKALB – A year ago, almost all of Dave Doeren’s assistant coaches were stranded in the local IHOP while he announced his inaugural recruiting class. Buried in a blizzard, they had no choice. Recruiting coordinator Ryan Nielsen was the only one who made it to the news conference.

After individually discussing all 31 recruits in Northern Illinois 2012 football class, coach Dave Doeren said he hoped "five to seven" would play as freshmen.

The Northern Illinois men’s basketball team has been paired with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in its BracketBusters contest to be played on Feb. 18 at SIUE. The Huskies and Cougars have met once previously, a 90-69 NIU victory on Dec. 9, 1985 in DeKalb.

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Northern Illinois women’s tennis team completed its first weekend of the spring season with a close-fought win over SouthernIllinois University Edwardsville. The Huskies split the match 3-3 in singles play and relied on a 3-0 record from its doubles teams to decide the winner.

Former NFL wide receiver Frisman Jackson, a Chicago native who started his collegiate football career at Northern Illinois, has joined coach Dave Doeren’s staff as an assistant coach on the offensive side of the ball, Doeren announced Tuesday.

NIU win comes with much relief
For the second straight season, Northern Illinois senior DeMarcus Grady will jump from football to basketball. Grady, a five-year member of the NIU football program, has rejoined the Huskies men’s basketball team.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Northern Illinois men’s basketball team lost to Western Michigan, 77-68, on Wednesday night at University Arena. Senior forward Tim Toler led the way for the Huskies with 15 points on five three-pointers.
Samantha Hill isn’t the type who needs to give her teammates a pep talk or be a loud presence on the soccer field. The actions from the Geneva High alumna speak loud enough.
Trailing by 12 at halftime, the Northern Illinois women’s basketball team came all the way back to grab a late lead but could not hang on as Ball State won, 50-43, at Worthen Arena on Wednesday night.
Four Northern Illinois players have been selected for postseason all-star games, the school announced Tuesday.
