For anyone who walks by Huskie Stadium these days, it's hard to miss the construction of the Chessick Center.
The steel frame stands out behind the north end zone, and walls are already going up as well. Northern Illinois athletic director Jeff Compher sounds pleased with how process is going. He said only a few days of construction have been lost due to weather issues.
"I think they maybe have lost a maximum of five days," Compher told the Daily Chronicle. "Which, for these months that they've been building is excellent."
Compher said he expects the building to be completed in the fall, around October. Compher said he "definitely" sees the Chessick Center being operational by Thanksgiving weekend, when NIU hosts the IHSA state football championships.
"That was one of the things that I think really enhanced our bid for those championships, and we're on target to reach that," he said.
