Northern Illinois football coach Rod Carey completed his coaching staff Monday, hiring Kelvin Sigler as cornerbacks coach.

Sigler spent the 2012 season as a defensive analyst for Alabama, who won its third national title in four years. He takes over for Richard McNutt, who joined Dave Doeren at N.C. State after the Orange Bowl. Sigler was a defensive back at Alabama from 1995-98.

Prior to joining the Crimson Tide, Sigler spent four seasons at Blount High School in Mobile, Ala., where he went 27-18, making the playoffs each year.

“In coming here and meeting the coaches, and sitting down and talking to Coach Carey one-on-one, I could tell that the coaches have a passion for what they’re doing and that there is a family atmosphere surrounding the football program that my family and I can be a part of,” Sigler said in a news release. “NIU is coming off a great season with the Orange Bowl and their second MAC Championship so this is a great chance to be a part of something special. I’m excited to have a chance to continue that success.”
