Abdel Nader suspended for violation of team rules

Northern Illinois sophomore wing Abdel Nader has been suspended for the beginning of the season, Huskies head coach Mark Montgomery announced Friday.

The indefinite suspension is due to a violation of team rules.

“We have high standards for our student-athletes and unfortunately at the end of last season Abdel did not live up to those standards,” Montgomery said through a team spokesperson. “As a result of his action he has been suspended from competition indefinitely.”

Nader, a native of Skokie, averaged 10.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in 2011-12. He was named to the All-Mid-American Conference Freshman Team last season, and was a preseason All-MAC selection this year.

NIU opens up its season at Nebraska Omaha tonight at 7 p.m.
