Wednesday morning practice notes

Northern Illinois completed its 11th preseason practice Wednesday morning at Huskie Stadium. When the afternoon session concludes, the Huskies will be halfway through fall camp.

Here are a few notes and observations from Wednesday morning:

• Starting quarterback Jordan Lynch has looked better and better as camp has gone on. I think he's thrown the ball well, and his running isn't a question mark either. He broke off a couple of nice runs Wednesday.

• Sophomore Tommylee Lewis continues to look solid as a slot receiver. He made a nice touchdown catch over the middle during red zone drills. Lewis is listed as one of four starting wideouts (along with Martel Moore, Perez Ashford and Da'Ron Brown) on NIU's preseason depth chart. I think Lewis will have a nice impact at the position.

• Back to the quarterback position. From what I've seen backup Matt McIntosh has improved as well. He's also been getting some snaps with the first team.

• Just one practice for NIU Thursday, starting at 3:15 p.m.

Which former Huskie has the best chance of sticking with his new NFL team?
CB Rashaan Melvin (Tampa Bay)
WR Martel Moore (Atlanta)
WR Perez Ashford (Cleveland)
DE Alan Baxter (Pittsburgh)
