Northern Illinois received two votes in the USA Today Top 25 football coaches preseason poll, which was released Thursday. Last season, the Huskies finished No. 26 in the coaches poll after a MAC championship and a win over Arkansas State in the GoDaddy.com Bowl.

NIU coach Dave Doeren does have a vote in the coaches poll. Other MAC coaches that have votes are Akron's Terry Bowden, Toledo's Matt Campbell, Kent State's Darrell Hazell, Ball State's Pete Lembo and Ohio's Frank Solich.

The two schools that played for the 2011 national championship are ranked 1-2 in the preseason poll. LSU comes in at No. 1 while defending national champ Alabama is ranked second. The Crimson Tide actually received more first-place votes (20) than the Tigers (18).

Southern California, a team that was banned from postseason play in 2010 and 2011, is ranked third while getting 19 first-place votes. Oklahoma (4) and Florida State (7) each got one first-place vote.
