The Philadelphia 76ers have signed former Northern Illinois guard Xavier Silas for the remainder of the season.

Silas, who played for the Huskies during the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons, averaged 22.3 ppg and 4.6 rpg his senior year, earning first team All-MAC honors. He has spent this year playing for the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Developmental League, where he's averaged 9.8 ppg and 3.0 rpg. Silas was cut by the Sixers during the preseason.

During the NBA's preseason, Silas played 10 minutes in the Sixers' Dec. 16 game at Washington, scoring three points.

Philadelphia is 34-30 and holds the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference, and has already clinched a playoff spot.
