3 men's hoops players checking options

A Northern Illinois official confirmed a CBSSports.com report this morning that guards Zach Miller and Stian Berg and forward Jeremiah Jackson have been given permission to contact other schools.

Miller is the only player on scholarship, while Berg and Jackson are walk-ons. This doesn't necessarily mean that the three players are gone for good from NIU, but they do have permission to head to another school.

Berg was a bit of a revelation for the Huskies this past season. The Baerum, Nowary native started 13 games and averaged 3.7 points. He shot 34.2 percent from three-point range.

Miller started six games and played in 19. He had 37 assists and averaged 2.5 points a game. Jackson played in 25 games and averaged 1.4 points a game.

NIU released this statement from coach Mark Montgomery.

"Zach has made the decision to transfer and continue his playing career elsewhere," Montgomery said. "I want to thank him for his contribution to the program this past year. Zach is a fine young man with a bright future and I wish him nothing but success going forward. Stian and Jeremiah have each worked hard as walk-ons in our program. They both expressed interest in exploring scholarship opportunities elsewhere and we have granted them the ability to explore those options."
