Coffman nominated for CLASS award
Northern Illinois senior defensive end Jake Coffman is one of 30 Football Bowl Subdivision players to be nominated for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.
The award honors seniors "who have achieved in the areas of community, classroom, character and competition," according to an NIU release. Coffman, 26, is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran with a 3.0 grade-point average.
Coffman returned to the Huskies after originally leaving the team with one year of eligibility left. He earned his bachelor's degree in sociology last spring. He led the Huskies with 8.5 sacks last season.
Coffman is the only player from the Mid-American Conference nominated for the award.
