Bell will not play against Iowa State

A Northern Illinois football spokeswoman confirmed to the Daily Chronicle that Iowa State transfer Cameron Bell will not play against his former team during the Huskies season opener in Ames, Iowa., on Sept. 2.

The NIU spokeswoman would not go into detail about whether Bell’s absence from the game was because of a transfer agreement between NIU and Iowa State. He will be active for the Sept. 11 home opener against South Dakota.

Bell, a 6-foot-2, 245-pound running back, is expected to be a bruising back to complement senior tailbacks Chad Spann and Ricky Crider and junior college transfer Jasmin Hopkins. Bell, a Round Rock, Texas native, played linebacker and special teams at Iowa State. Bell ran for more than 3,000 yards at Stony Point High School.
