Why wasn't the game on last night?
As many of you have let us know, last night's Northern Illinois-Western Michigan game was in fact not on CSN+ in the DeKalb-Sycamore area as advertised. Apparently it was on in the Chicago suburbs. Instead of the NIU game, the Chicago Wolves were televised here.
I spent an hour speaking with Comcast representatives this morning. You can imagine how that went (Hint: Not well). Comcast did acknowledge that the game should have been broadcast, but representatives don't know why the game wasn't and couldn't provide an answer or even refer me to someone who did have an explanation.
The final solution I was given was to go to customer.comcast.com and "e-mail the network."
My personal favorite part of the whole exchange was when a representative said "I don't follow football. Are they (Northern Illinois and Western Michigan) still in the Big Ten?" I didn't even know what to say to that.
If you follow us on Twitter (twitter.com/HuskieWire) you can relive my wasted hour.
And, in what I'm sure was a complete coincidence, my Internet services, provided by Comcast, went down for 30 minutes after my tweets. Touché, Comcast.
With that, let's have a little fun today.
The Huskies lost their ninth straight MAC game last night at Western Michigan (not that many of you were even able to see it). Jan. 20 was the last time the Northern Illinois men's basketball team won a game. It was a 58-54 victory at Toledo.
Wide receivers coach P.J. Fleck was officially announced as a member of the Rutgers coaching staff a day later. Now, NIU needs to win two of its last three MAC games just to improve on last season's 5-11 conference record. Should the Huskies win their next conference game, it will be on Feb. 24 against Central Michigan, more than a month in-between MAC wins for NIU.
But how long has it really been since NIU's last conference victory? Well...
– "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" was still on the air.
– National signing day still was two weeks away (and no one here outside of the Yordon Center, including myself, had a clue who Casey Weston was).
– Andre Dawson's Hall of Fame cap hadn't been decided yet.
– The Winter Olympics were three weeks from starting.
– Massachusetts senator Scott Brown had not yet assumed office.
– Ball State went 6-3 to take control of the MAC West.
– The New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints and were battling out in the NFL playoffs.
– DeKalb hadn't lost two aldermen.
– Classes had been in session this semester at NIU for a total of nine days.
