Wednesday musings
A few thoughts/questions while still trying to get on board with the idea that an earthquake (thankfully a very minor one if you haven't heard) happened in this area...
We've gotten some good suggestions for the name of our podcast, so thank you and continue to send ideas in if one strikes you. The leaders in the clubhouse appear to be "The Dish" and "Dog Bytes."
The Northern Illinois men are back in action tonight against Bowling Green. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. and 1360-AM WLBK will have the call. Ken Pomeroy says the Huskies lose, 71-64. Pomeroy predicted the Huskies would lose all six games against the MAC East and he is 5 for 5 so far.
With that, I've got a couple of thoughts and questions on the Huskies.
1. After Miami (Ohio) beat NIU this past Saturday, Miami coach Charlie Coles said NIU guard Jake Anderson might be the best dribble penetrator in the conference, even ahead of Western Michigan's David Kool.
One stat that might sway your opinion in Coles' favor: Anderson is shooting 23.1 percent from behind the three-point arc this season. He's made nine three-pointers total. That's six more than Michael Fakuade. He hasn't even attempted a three in the past two games. Opponents know this and play off Anderson, daring him to shoot from outside, yet he can still get to the hole with good success.
My question is this: Do you believe NIU is utilizing Anderson enough as a dribble penetrator?
2. A week into February is when most college teams have their rotations all figured out and they go forward with that identity for the rest of the season. NIU has used four different starting lineups against the MAC East alone.
NIU is 7-3 with a starting lineup of Anderson, Mike DiNunno, Xavier Silas, Fakuade and Lee Fisher. The Huskies are 1-2 when starting Najul Ervin (remember him?), Sean Kowal, DiNunno, Tony Nixon (replacing an injured Silas) and Anderson. The Huskies are 0-8 with any other starting lineup.
My other question for today is this: In your view, what should the rotation be for the Huskies?
