Best of the Decade: Basketball Player of the Decade
First, congratulations to former Huskie running back Garrett Wolfe for being voted as the Football Player of the Decade at NIU, narrowly edging Michael Turner.
The nominations are in. Now it's time for you to vote on the best Basketball Player of the Decade at Northern Illinois. We'll have Coach of the Decade and Overall MVP in the coming days.
Here are the nominees:
Jake Anderson – G
Anderson was named the MAC Freshman of the Year in 2007-08 and a second team All-MAC player for his sophomore season. He became first NIU freshman to lead the Huskies in scoring since T.J. Lux. For his career, the junior has averaged 14.3 points and 5.6 rebounds a game.
Stephanie Raymond – G
Raymond was the No. 20 overall selection (second round) in the 2007 WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky. She averaged 14.9 points a game as a Huskie and was a first team All-MAC player her senior season, second team All-MAC as a junior, third team All-MAC as a sophomore and a member of the All-MAC freshman team.
Todd Peterson – F
A key member of NIU's MAC West Division title team in 2005-06. Peterson was named to the MAC Honorable Mention team after averaging 12.1 points and 5.9 rebounds a game. He finished career as NIU's all-time leading three-point shooter, knocking down 235 three-point field goals.
T.J. Lux – F
He played in the 2000 season, so technically Lux counts in this. He graduated as NIU's all-time leading scorer with 1,996 points and all-time leading rebounder with 1,100 boards. In his senior season, the only one that crawls into this decade, Lux averaged 19.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks a game.
