Football: Huskies move up in latest BCS standings

With Northern Illinois football on a bye week, the Huskies moved up to No. 15 in the Bowl Championship Series standings.

Fresno State, which defeated Wyoming, 48-10, moved up to No. 14.

The Huskies were 18th in the BCS last week while Fresno State came in at No. 16.

Fresno State gained a good amount of ground on Northern Illinois in this week’s USA Today Coaches Poll. The Bulldogs moved up to No. 14 in this week’s poll, while the Huskies dropped from No. 20 down to No. 21. Fresno has 646 points compared to 445 for the Huskies.

In the Harris Poll, another component of the BCS, NIU came in 18th while Fresno State was 13th. NIU will have an opportunity to move up this week, with the Huskies taking on 9-1 Ball State on Wednesday. The Cardinals received 22 points in this week’s poll. The Bulldogs play 3-6 New Mexico Saturday evening.

Central Florida, which control its own destiny in the American Athletic Conference, moved up from No. 21 to No. 19 in the Coaches Poll after a victory against Houston. If NIU does not finish ahead of a champion from an automatic-qualifying conference, the Huskies would have to finish in the top 12 of the final BCS standings, instead of the top 16, in order to earn a BCS berth. UCF is ranked 19th in the Harris Poll.

NIU moved up to No. 20 in The Associated Press Poll, which is not a component of the BCS.

Will NIU football win the MAC this season?
