DeKALB – Both of Northern Illinois’ scout teams have been on the field the past couple days, as the Huskies have started preparation for the Week 1 contest against Iowa.
One thing which has stood out to me watching practice – true freshmen wideouts Aregeros Turner and Chad Beebe have not been part of the offensive scout team. I think this is a sign both will see action in 2012.
More notes from Thursday’s practice:
• Defensive end George Rainey missed some time earlier this week, but he’s back practicing, as is wideout Juwan Brescacin. It’s big having Brescacin, a 6-4, 219 sophomore, back to practice, especially with Tommylee Lewis still out.
• Jordan Lynch’s passing wasn’t a problem last season, but from the naked eye watching him in camp, his arm’s better than a year ago. His arm strength is obviously very good, and he seems to have more zip on the ball. Earlier in camp, Lynch talked about how he had a goal to complete 70 percent of his passes this season.
• Expect to see a lot more of senior corner Jhony Faustin this season. He started 10 games in 2011, and has been taking reps with the first team.
“Every good team needs seniors to play like they’re seniors,” Carey said earlier this week. “And we have that right now going on with Jhony. We need everybody else to do that too.”
