Women's golf takes 8th at MAC Championships

NASHPORT, Ohio –The Northern Illinois University women’s golf team was unable to gain ground in the final round of play and finished eighth at the 2013 Mid-American Conference Women’s Golf Championships at Longaberger Golf Course Sunday.

NIU shot a 983 (324-330-329) for the tournament and was 18 shots out of seventh place. Kent State won the team title with a 909 and Jennifer Ha of KSU won the individual championship with a 222.

Jenny Niemiec finished in 26th with a 243 (81-79-83), improving on her 30th place finish in last year’s tournament. Casey LaBarbara took 29th after shooting a 245 (79-83-83) in her first MAC Women’s Golf Championships.

Connie Ellett posted a 248 (81-85-82), while senior Allie Parthie took 38th after carding a 252 (83-88-81) in the final tournament of her career. Taylor Ellett held on to 44th after scoring a 263 (91-83-89).

“It was not a good tournament for us, but we showed a lot of positives through the week” said NIU head coach Kim Kester. “It was raining the entire time today so it was good to see Allie end on a positive note. Overall, it was a good season. I’m very happy with the improvements made and look to continue that into next year.”
