The Mid-American Conference released the 2012 football schedule today. NIU had previously released the non-conference schedule, but now the complete season schedule is set to be viewed.
Northern Illinois will defend its MAC crown starting Sept. 29 at home against Central Michigan, then travel to Ball State. The Huskies play only once at home in October, on the 13th against Buffalo. After back-to-back road trips to Akron and Western Michigan, NIU returns home for two games in November.
The first November game is a Saturday against MAC newcomer Massachusetts. The second is a Wednesday night game at home against Toledo. After that, the Huskies have nine days off before traveling to Eastern Michigan the day after Thanksgiving.
“I think if you look at the home schedule, we have two BCS teams, including one in Huskie Stadium, we have a rivalry game against Toledo, and we have Central Michigan, the team that beat us a year ago,” NIU coach Dave Doeren said in a news release. “We get to play at home in November, which is the month when champions are crowned. It’s a great schedule for fans to have almost all Saturday home games. Compared to last year with back-to-back-to-back Tuesdays, we’ve got a Saturday, a Wednesday and a Friday this November.”
