Northern Illinois junior cornerback Rashaan Melvin practiced the past two days, though the secret surrounding his injury remains.
He declined to discuss specifics Wednesday, only saying that it occurred during NIU's opener against Army. When asked if he felt 100 percent, he simply answered, "I'm doing pretty good."
Apparently, he feels good enough to play against Wisconsin on Saturday. When asked if Melvin will be on the field for the Huskies 2:30 p.m. kickoff against the Badgers at Soldier Field, NIU coach Dave Doeren's answer was one word: "Absolutely."
"He looks great," Doeren said. "He had three or four picks today. He's playing well and looks like he never missed a beat. We're certainly very happy he's back."
Melvin was a game-time decision for NIU's game at Kansas last Saturday and was unable to play. He did say Wednesday he's happy to be back on the field.
"I've got a lot of confidence in my team, confidence in myself that we're going to go out there and get the job done," Melvin said. "We've got a good game plan. We've just got to keep working for it, getting better at it and coming out here and just keep getting better every day."
