
The 83rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays proved to be the one for the Huskie record books Friday afternoon when the Northern Illinois women’s track and field team shattered two NIU school records in the second day of competition at the Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas. The Huskies captured school records in the 100-meter hurdles and 4x100-meter relay at the event.
Rhonda Lee , Megan Gregory , Rochelle Muskeyvalley and Rasheta Butler comprised the 4x100-meter relay team that raced to a school record time of 47.34 to finish 23rd at the relays.
For the second-consecutive meet, Gregory has set a school record time in the 100-meter hurdles. The sophomore, who previously set the school record with a time of 14:52 on March 6, reset the school record with a career-best time of 14.15. Gregory finished 24th, out of 66 competitors, in the event.
Roneisha Frye also ran the 100-meter hurdles for the Huskies, finishing the race in a personal-best time of 14.88 to place 48th. Butler competed in the 100-meter dash for the Huskies, racing to a personal-best time of 12.13.
Jenelle McCalla , Butler, Rebecca Cronin and Muskeyvalley represented the Huskies in the 4x400-meter relay. The Huskies clocked in with a time of 3:58.20. Running the 1600 sprint medley relay was Butler, Brittany Houghton , Muskeyvalley and Oldenburg who ran the race in a time of 4:08.67. .
Off the track, Cora Caulfield saw the Huskies top finish of the afternoon when she competed in the discus throw for NIU. Caulfied threw a season-best 148-05 to place sixth in the women’s discus b section and 18th overall in the event.
“The Texas Relays features some of the best competition in the nation,” head track and field coach Connie Teaberry said. “The girls came in and competed really hard. Their focus was second to none, and they came out achieved some really good times. I am extremely proud of how the girls performed and we are ready to go into the third day of competition.”
