Huskies complete Day 1 at Texas Relays

The Northern Illinois track and field team wrapped up its first day at the 83rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays as several Huskies displayed strong performances at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Freshmen Rebecca Cronin and Jenelle McCalla represented Northern Illinois in the 400-meter hurdles. Cronin clocked in at a 1:06.39 to place 38th during preliminary rounds. McCalla was 42nd in the preliminaries with a time of 1:07.40.

The Huskies also competed in the 4x800-meter relay, which was comprised of Courtney Oldenburg , Sunsea Shaw , Amanda Trancoso and Breanna Brevitt . The Huskies ran the race in a time of 9:43.32 to finish 10th in the event.

“We had a good start today,” NIU track and field coach Connie Teaberry said. “Becca and Jenelle came out and ran the 400-meter hurdles for us. They went out there competed very strong and did very well today. In the 4x800 we had a really great race also. Each girl contributed greatly in the relay, allowing us to capture a strong final time.”

The Huskies will enter their second day of competition at the Texas Relays tomorrow. Friday’s running events are set to kick-off at 9:30 a.m. , while field events will begin with the javelin throw at 10 a.m.

“We only competed in two events today,” said Teaberry. “We are looking forward to getting out there and competing in a full day of competition tomorrow.”
