LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Northern Illinois women's track and field team kicked-off its 2010 outdoor season in fine fashion Saturday when Megan Gregory broke the NIU school record in the 100-meter hurdles and the Huskies recorded six top-three performances at the UNLV Track Classic at the Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr-Smith Field in Las Vegas, Nev.
Gregory added her name to the Northern Illinois record books for the second time Saturday when she raced to a time of 14.52 in the 100-meter hurdles. Gregory, who holds the NIU 60-meter hurdles indoor record, personal-best time broke the 100-meter hurdle record which was previously set in 2004 by Jenin Robinson with a time of 14.53.
"Coming off a disappointing finish at the MAC Championships, the girls came out to UNLV and competed very well," NIU track and field coach Connie Teaberry said. "We had a lot of top-five finishers at this meet and for the girls to come out and do as well as they did, it shows the level of focus the girls came into this meet with."
Jenner Sio saw the Huskies top finish of the evening when she finished first in the triple jump event with a mark of 36-01.50. Sio set a personal-best record in the event.
Deidra Mcintosh and Brittany Houghton leapt to success in the long jump when they finished second and third, respectively. McIntosh leapt to a mark of 17-10.25 while Houghton finished third with a leap of 17-04.00. Rounding out the field events, Cora Caulfield finished third in the discus when she threw a mark of 147-10.
