By NIU Media Relations

The Northern Illinois women's track and field team raced to multiple personal-best records Friday as the Huskies concluded day one of the 2010 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Central Michigan at the Jack Skoog Indoor Track in Mt. Pleasant, Mich..

While the Huskies did not score in any of their respective events Rhonda Lee, Rasheta Butler, Breanna Brevitt, Rochelle Muskeyvalley and Nancy Maritim achieved personal-best records at the championships.

"This was a championship competition and we did not compete on a championship level," NIU track and field coach Connie Teaberry said. "The girls did not rise to the occasion, and while there were some bright spots today we should have been able to earn more points than we did."

In the field events, Lee was the top finisher for the Huskies in the long jump event. Lee notched a personal-best mark of 18-04.50 to finish first for the Huskies and tenth overall in the event.

On the track Brevitt and Butler also earned personal-best performances. Brevitt competed in the 5,000-meter run for the Huskies, crossing the finish line with a personal-best time of 18:59.37. Nancy Maritim also achieved a personal record in the 5,000-meter when she finished the race with a time of 19:29.77.

In the 400-meter dash Butler earned a personal record when she raced to a time of 58.58. Muskeyvalley also earned a personal record in the 400m with a time of 58.63.

"I am looking forward to facing the opponents tomorrow," said Teaberry. "Hopefully we will bring stronger competition to the championships tomorrow."
