Wrestling falls to Buffalo on senior day

By NIU Media Relations

The Northern Illinois University wrestling team suffered a 25-8 setback to Mid-American Conference foe Buffalo Sunday in Victor E. Court at the Convocation Center.

The Bulls (9-7-1, 2-3) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after taking the first two matches of the afternoon, winning at 125 and 133. Junior Patrick McLemore gave the Huskies their first points of the day when he edged out Andrew Schutt, 4-3 at 141. McLemore's victory pulled the Huskies to within two, 5-3, as Buffalo was deducted a point after Schutt threw his headgear.

Northern Illinois' (9-10, 1-4) lone senior, Dan Ruettiger, who was celebrating senior day Sunday gave NIU a 6-5 lead when he scored a 3-1 victory at 149. The lead would be short lived as Bryan Deustch lost to Andrew Stella by pin fall, 2:43, at 157.

"Congratulations to Dan Ruettiger on picking up the last dual meet win of his career," NIU coach Dave Grant said. "That was an unfortunate situation at 157 when we were winning."

Dakota Greenhaw gave the Huskies their third and final victory of the day when he scored an 8-3 victory over Jason Weber at 285.

"We're getting to the end of the season where it really matters," Grant said. "We've got to start getting the focus and intensity in the direction that we want. We've got two weeks to get ready [for the MAC Championships]."
