The Northern Illinois men's tennis team recorded wins at the respective second, third, fourth and fifth singles slots, securing coach Patrick Fisher'sfirst-career win with a 4-3 decision over Detroit at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility in East Lansing, Mich., Friday afternoon.

Freshman Mikhail Titov (No. 2), sophomore Roman Turtygin (No. 4) and freshman Maximilian Phillips (No. 5) all picked up their first-career wins in the competitive spring season, while senior Javier Bernabe (No. 3) recorded his third win of the season, to secure NIU's four team points

NIU's Greg Czajkowski and No. 1 singles player Maksym Bartiuk teamed for a 9-7, pro-set win at the third doubles flight, but Detroit posted wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions, picking up the doubles point.

"We certainly had the advantage through the middle of our singles lineup today, and that was key to the win," said Fisher. "It was good to see the guys dig in, and find a way to get a win. "I thought we made some good adjustments during the match."

"We still have a long way to go in doubles. It's definitely going to be a work in progress, and we need to continue to focus on our doubles play in practice."
