POWELL BUTTE, Ore. – Senior Kim Hunley shot a 27-hole score of 112 to finish in second place at the Northern Illinois Women's Golf Invitational at Brasada Ranch, Monday.

The Huskies finished behind Portland, 308-320, in the dual invite. The tournament was abbreviated to 27 holes, all played Monday, after record snowfall covered the course making Sunday's scheduled 18 holes unplayable.

NIU coach Pam Tyska was pleased with the performance, especially the way her team navigated a picturesque but unfamiliar Brasada Canyons Golf Course.

"We played lower than our normal scoring average at home, and this is a place no one has ever played before," Tyska said. "No one on our team has played desert golf, and some of the have never even seen a mountain."

Set just east of the Cascade Mountains, the scenery at Brasada inspired some Huskies to shoot low. Junior Jessica Parmenter used a first round score of 78, followed by a 35 over the final nine to tie for third place at the tournament.

As a team, Northern Illinois shot 145 over the final nine. If that pace held for 18 holes, it would've set a new Huskie all-time team low for a round.

"We posted some of the best nine hole scores we have ever posted," Tyska said. "It was tough to call it a tournament after 27 holes, but that what's mother nature handed to us."
