Goalkeeper Lindsey Curnock tied the Mid-American Conference shutout record Friday night, when she posted her 27th-career shutout in NIU's 1-0 win over Southern Illinois Edwardsville (0-3). A late goal from Kim Schmitt propelled the Huskies (2-3) to a 1-0 overtime victory over the Cougars.
In her second shutout of the season, Curnock tied the Mid-American Conference career shutout record with 27, leading the Huskies to a 1-0 win over Edwardsville. Curnock posted four saves in the game, bringing her season total to 21.
The game remained scoreless throughout the first two periods, but in the 99th minute of play Schmitt launched the Huskies to victory when she netted her first goal of the season after receiving an assist from Annie Wyer and Kelly Mullany. Mullany passed the ball to Wyer who headed the ball, and set the play for Schmitt who recorded the winning goal for the Huskies.
"It was a very hard fought battle and we showed a lot of character tonight," women's soccer coach Carrie Barker said. "It's been tough to be on the road for the past five games, but to finish on the road with a win is great. I am very happy where we are right now, and I am really happy with the character the girls showed tonight."
