A new era

By John Sahly – jsahly@daily-chronicle.com
We're excited about the debut of HuskieWire.com, just like NIU kicker Mike Salerno (left) and Brandon Beal were after Salerno kicked the winning field goal against Bowling Green last season. (ROB WINNER | rwinner@daily-chronicle.com)

This is it.

The coverage of Northern Illinois athletics you've always wanted has arrived. The all-new HuskieWire.com is the result of months of planning and hard work by people dedicated to bringing you the stories and information you care about when it comes to NIU sports.

A few of the highlights of HuskieWire.com:

• First, the in-depth stories and the news of the day from our Huskie Wire blog are readily available and easy to access. Check out video interviews from NIU football practice under the "Video" tab and review the 2008 Independence Bowl season under the "Photos" tab.

• A Q&A section, where you can submit questions whenever you want and I'll answer them every Thursday throughout the school year. The first batch of questions and answers comes this Thursday, so get your questions in now.

• Easy-to-find links to our Twitter feed and Facebook page.

• Learn all about Huskie Stadium, the Yordon Center and the Convocation Center by clicking on the "Facilities" tab.

• You can upload your NIU-related photos and videos under the "Reader submissions" tab. Share your photos and videos with fellow NIU fans in just a couple of clicks.

This is uncharted territory when it comes to covering NIU sports, and we at the Daily Chronicle are excited about this new venture. With the football season underway, we'll be bringing you even more of the coverage of the Huskies you already expect from us, across multiple platforms and with greater depth than ever before.

Don't be afraid to give us feedback and tell us what you want to see by e-mailing us at huskiewire@daily-chronicle.com. We'll be adding more to the site as the seasons progress, so be on the lookout for new features in the coming days, weeks and months.

Follow us on Twitter and friend us on Facebook, voice your opinion in our reader poll and upload your photos and videos to our site, ask questions and I'll try and answer them in our Q&A section.

Above all, get ready. This is only the beginning.
